Livestreaming Event
In partnership with the Division of Theatre and the Meadows School of the Arts, alumna Regina Taylor ’81, award-winning actress, director and playwright, launched a unique, three-part theatrical project last fall titled the black album, exploring and addressing what it is to be Black in 2020 and beyond. The first phase, the black album.2020.resistance., was a collage of monologues, songs, scenes and images written and directed by Taylor and performed live online in October by Meadows undergraduate and graduate acting students. Sets, costumes, lighting and sound were created by Meadows theatre design students, alumni and faculty in collaboration with guest artists. The production was filmed and will be screened for the first time in this evening presentation. Taylor will introduce the film and take part in a discussion with viewers afterwards along with the seven student actors. The screening is presented as one of the spring events of the black album.mixtape., the second phase of the black album project. The mixtape project will include a variety of events in the spring semester, each a platform for ideas to be created and shared, with an emphasis on social justice.
