Join us for an evening discussion with legendary civil rights activist, scholar, administrator, manager, public theologian and educator Ruby Sales, moderated by Dr. Wilmer Leon, political scientist and longtime host of “Inside the Issues w/Wilmer Leon” on Sirius XM. The evening will be introduced by Golden Globe-winning actress, director and playwright Regina Taylor and will be followed by a short Q&A with the audience. The event is presented as part of the black album.mixtape., the second phase of a unique, three-part theatrical project titled the black album conceived by Taylor and presented in partnership with SMU. A Distinguished Alumna who earned a theatre degree from SMU Meadows School of the Arts in 1981, Taylor developed the project to explore and address the question of what it is to be Black in 2020 and beyond. The first phase, the black album. 2020.resistance., a collage of monologues, songs, scenes and images, was written by Taylor and presented in October by Meadows theatre students. the black album.mixtape. will include events throughout the spring semester, each a platform for ideas to be created and shared. The mixtape project will also include collaborations featuring work by HBCUs, other colleges and universities, high schools, elementary schools, community centers, institutions and individuals around the globe in the areas of arts, science and technology, with an emphasis on social justice.
